ARDUOUS CHALLENGES OF RESUME WRITING

This content discusses about the arduous part faced in writing a resume such as inclusion of right keywords, précised resume length, stressing about ATS, addition of achievements.

A statement that is been commonly heard while preparing a resume is that it is very hard and has a ton of challenges to be fulfilled in order to create the best resume. According to a survey done by CV Designer, the common pain points faced while creating a good resume are the inclusion of right key words, précised length of a resume, stress on ATS and addition of achievements.

The purpose of this survey was to understand the common difficulties faced while writing a great resume and these pain points were categorized according to their difficulty level such as, inclusion of right key words- 30%, addition of achievements- 29%, stressing about ATS- 25% and précised resume length- 15%.

• INCLUSION OF RIGHT KEY WORDS- 30%

The common problem faced in the inclusion of keywords is placing those words in the right place in accordance to the content. These words should not be just listed but it should create a meaningful content as per requirement. Before choosing the keywords, be sure that you have a specific job title in mind and select words according to the job posted and its requirements. Avoid having a long list of core competencies or group of keywords standing alone in columns.

• ADDITION OF ACHIEVEMENTS- 29%

This is a top priority. Adding your achievements helps you in building the best resume. Employers would find it hard to qualify you for a job if you miss to add your achievements and the proof is seen from your stated accomplishments. But most people are unaware of their own achievements. So, in these cases you can ask questions to yourself such as what have you consistently achieved in your career, have you increased company’s competitive edge, have you saved or made any money, etc.

• STRESSING ABOUT ATS- 25%

First learn what ATS (Applicant Tracking System) is and how it works. Majority are unaware that ATS is a kind of ranking system and it manages an employer’s database of applications received against a listed position. This guides the recruiter in finding the right candidates for the position based on their resume content.  Include the right keywords that is suitable for the position you’re applying and avoid headers, footers, text boxes and tables as they do not show any types of row or columns on the computer screen to the recruiters.

• PRECISED RESUME LENGTH- 15%

In making a good resume, the length of resume matters a lot. ATS do not care about the page length but human does. Your resume cannot be too short or too long rather it should stick to the points in a précised manner. The best way to write a resume for freshers is only a page with their personal and academical details but the resume can go for maximum of two pages in the case of an experienced professional where all their achievements, researches, etc. are mentioned.
